bps software is a German company that offers software solutions tailored to the construction industry. It provides calculation software and ERP solutions for construction businesses and strives to digitally revolutionize the industry by optimizing and reinventing existing processes.
bps software requested the development of a platform called Craft Business Hub (CBH), that allows construction companies to manage projects and to receive and handle offers from subcontractors as simply as possible. This solution would modernize the process of creating and handling subcontractors’ offers. It was supposed to have an API which allows it to be connected to bps software’s already existing ERP system and calculation software, bps bau, in order to further process the offers within bps bau. Moreover, Craft Business Hub was supposed to function both in connection with bps bau and as a standalone application.
It was one of the first projects that began with a design sprint
Outstanding team dynamics, which enhance the excellent performance and the atmosphere of harmony
Market launch: May 2022.
The key solution driver to create this new application for the future business users trigged the main recommendation to start with 5 days prototyping method (Design Sprint) first to create a key user workflow and verify the approach. The goal was to reach a future system prototype in November 2019. This one-week fast prototyping process took place at the bps software Headquarters in Ibbenbüren, Germany and helped to verify the business idea premiss and define Minimal Viable Product (MVP) as the first implementation focus.
The development team consisted of both CN Group and bps software staff: CN Group provided a Scrum master, two developers and one tester, and bps software provided the Product Owner and various stakeholders, such as the CEO and the Sales department of bps software. Throughout the project, the SCRUM methodology as part of the agile development approach was followed.
Based on the prototype and the given user stories, the MVP architecture was created by CN Group in order to quickly bring the product onto the market without spending time on non-essential aspects. The use of Figma for designing the prototype significantly promoted the clear communication of the UX/UI vision within the team. In line with the objective of speeding up the development, the team created a responsive solution using React. This allowed them to later on convert the solution into a native application within only one Sprint (3 weeks) by means of Capacitor. Due to this approach, users have been able to access the platform on both PCs and mobile devices from the beginning on, while cutting down time throughout the project implementation.
The result is an efficient, multi-lingual platform called Craft Business Hub (CBH) for communication between construction companies and subcontractors. It posses an API which allows for data exchange between the platform and bps software’s already existing ERP system. Furthermore, a standalone version is being developed with the goal of enabling customers, who do not use bps software’s ERP yet, to work with CBH, too.
Of course, every project also has its challenges. The process of integrating CBH in the already existing ERP system could not proceed as quickly as the development of the application itself, as the ERP system has existed and grow over many years and thus, it required more time to make the necessary changes. This challenge, however, was successfully overcome and the solution will be launched onto the market in May 2022.
